The New Photographer

Each new day is a chance to learn.

About the New Photographer

with one comment

Studio Juan is a name I’ve crafted for a house soon to be built, delivering portraits and photography services. For now, it is the signature you will see for every bottom of each post.

My interest in photography started when my Dad bought a film camera where you just load a film and shoot. In college, the high cost of availing serious camera and gears has limited my pursuit to learning the art of taking pictures. I was contented using a refurbished instant camera for the college paper writing stories combined with pictures.

All of that changed when in the year 2004, I bought a Sony P_100 and began to discover a completely new world I’ve never seen before. For three years, I’ve captured and produced images I’m contented with, until I grew tired and wanted to shift to even serious photo shooting.

I grasped an entirely new experience with a single-lens reflex camera when D40 came into my hands. Now shooting with a couple of Pre-AI and AIs lenses, I still have a lot to learn to become an excellent photographer I envisioned to be. This blog will be home to my further understanding of the art, stories about photography and other things related.

The title weekend photographer was conceptualized when there seemed to be no more time left to shoot and practice with my camera during the weekdays because I used to work on a factory that doesn’t stop. Saturdays and Sundays were the only days left to spend hours understanding photography–now in its very dynamic and fast paced digital era. I decided to change the old name “weekend photographer” to “new photographer” for I’ve found better reasons why I’m writing this blog.

I’ve been shooting pictures for about 4 years now and I still consider myself new to the art. Everyday, I find and learn new things, be it a technique, a definition or a trick, on how to get, if not best, at least better at shooting photographs. I share them passionately as I would on every single click on the shutter.

Feel free to share your insights, and of course, enjoy!

  1. Hey there Jervis,

I enjoyed reading your blog and seeing some really talented imagery. I’m a technologist, and my love affair with digital photography has extended over the better part of the past decade. Besides enjoying this art, I’m also passionate about sharing techniques and experiences. Check out my blog for more details.

I look forward to reading your adventures with photography. Happy shooting!
